Ohio - Michigan - Finding State Line Road from the State Line

How can you get lost when you are standing on the state line & you are looking for State Line Road? Many times when I  jump out of the car to start a run, I agree to meet back up at a certain place at an approximate time. That way, if the distance is shorter (or longer usually) than I expected or if I make stops for selfies or being a tourist or general curiosity, it is no big deal. But what happens when I space on a turn or forget the exact route or streets have different names on the signs than on the maps or I decide to try a different route for whatever reason makes it look more interesting or attractive at that moment?

Such was the case as I passed from Ohio to Michigan with plans to turn on State Line Road & parallel the border for a few miles. Had I missed the turn already? Did it lie farther ahead? Two things I was certain of: State Line Road was not where the state border signs were and (2) State Line Liquor was near the state line but not on State Line Road. So I turned around & headed back to find it. And that added 2 miles to my run. Not that anyone waiting at the end noticed.

Ohio - Indiana - Running for breakfast

Pancakes, hash browns, home fries, grits, coffees, biscuits, scones, cinnamon rolls, almond croissants. What happens when you get get kicked out (or voluntarily jump out) miles away from the finish line? Well it depends on who you are with. Mom followed her instructions and found a comfortable place to wait and some breakfast to help kill the time. I ran down a road named Alpine and then onto Stateline Road. I somehow had thought that it had sidewalks & could be an enjoyable run. But my mistake & I ended up running on the edge or just off a fairly busy rural road. Oh well, at least people respected the orange vest.

Ohio - Kentucky - I ran over the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals

Yes, I ran the long bridge from Cincinnati to Covington that overlooked the Bengal's 3 practice fields and yes it was above them. I also rambled down the riverfront by Reds Stadium, racing a barge - aren't they supposed to be slow? Anyway I was faster than them. So score 1 for me in football & 1 against the barge - 2 to 0. I am an athlete! But wait,  even though I managed to get a run in, I was "shutout" of Riverfront stadium (baseball).

Ohio to West Virginia - Pickup - State lines

Ohio to West Virginia - Run State lines

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, to my knowledge, has never run across this bridge, but he does run the "Wild & Wonderful" state of West Virginia. I took a break in the middle of the bridge to look at the Ohio River. It just keeps getting bigger as it flows downstream. It has already defeated me once near Ft. Defiance, on the border with Illinois. Today was my turn.

Most of the running on this route has to be done on the East Liverpool, Ohio, side through the town, since there isn't much pedestrian-friendly access on the West Virginia side. While I had a sunny day, the pedestrian lane of the bridge should be okay for running even in the winter months. Thanks to the Ladies at Java Jo over on East 5th Street for helping with the planning and for fueling me up with caffeine. Their motto is: "We've bean expecting you", but they seemed surprised to see me & hear about my Crazy Ass Running Plan. #CARPe

Ohio to Pennsylvania - Run the Point of Beginning

Ohio to Pennsylvania - Run State lines
Near this site on Sept. 30, 1785, Thomas Hutchins, first Geographer of the United States, drove a stake. This was the "Point of Beginning" of the Geographer's Line for the survey of the first "Seven Ranges" of six-mile-square townships in compliance with the Federal Land Ordinance of 1785. This survey served as a prototype for most of the western United States (except Texas) and many countries of the world. Oh yeah, and it marked my crossing from Ohio to Pennsylvania. Thanks, Thomas, for your help in my Crazy Ass Running Plan. #CARPe
