Vermont - New Hampshire - Run Free or Die at the State Line

Great 10-mile run from Wells River, Vermont, across the Connecticut River - down the main street of Woodsville to a decision point: the rails-to-trails Ammonoosuc Rail Trail or Dunkin' Donuts. The path was there just for me and a few deerflies. I ran to Lisbon, but there were access points about every mile. There is a small incline (100 feet over 10 miles), so you can run it either way. I discovered later that JerryJAM - a 4 day Grateful Dead Cover Band Camping weekend - was just starting 500 yards away as I ran by!

Delaware & Hudson Rail Trail near Rupert, VT

Post run, I am soaking wet from the late afternoon summer humidity & standing at the car near a cool northern stream - sort of in the middle of nowhere. Well, in the midst of my changing to some dry & clean clothes, a woman appears from the cornfield in a bathing suit headed for her afternoon swim. Oops - one more run - this time for cover!

Watch out, Presidential candidates, somebody else is running from (& to) Vermont. (Other than Bernie Sanders.)
